Thursday Quotes - Women On Anger

Bitterness
is like cancer. It eats upon the host. But anger is like fire. It
burns it all clean. Maya Angelou
I
want to say somewhere: I've tried to be forgiving. And yet. There
were times in my life, whole years, when anger got the better of me.
Ugliness turned me inside out. There was a certain satisfaction in
bitterness. I courted it. It was standing outside, and I invited it
in. Nicole Krauss, The History of Love
So
you try to think of someone else you're mad at, and the unavoidable
answer pops into your little warped brain: everyone. Ellen Hopkins
Most
hatred is based on fear, one way or another. Yeah. I wrapped myself
in anger, with a dash of hate, and at the bottom of it all was an icy
center of pure terror. LaurellK. Hamilton, Guilty Pleasures
Anger
is stupid, and stupidity will kill you more surely than your
opponent's blade.
Patricia Briggs, Dragon Bones
This
was something she would keep hidden within herself, maybe in place of
the knot of pain and anger she had been carrying under her
breastbone...a security blanket, an ace up her sleeve. She might
never use it, but she would always feel its presence like a swelling
secret stone, and that way when she let go of the rage, she would not
feel nearly as empty. Jodi Picoult, Mercy
Anger
is like flowing water; there's nothing wrong with it as long as you
let it flow. Hate is like stagnant water; anger that you denied
yourself the freedom to feel, the freedom to flow; water that you
gathered in one place and left to forget. Stagnant water becomes
dirty, stinky, disease-ridden, poisonous, deadly; that is your hate.
On flowing water travels little paper boats; paper boats of
forgiveness. Allow yourself to feel anger, allow your waters to flow,
along with all the paper boats of forgiveness. Be
human. C.Joy Bell C.
And
everyone saw me. Tobias saw me.
I hear footsteps. Tobias marches toward me and wrenches me to my feet.
"What the hell was that, Stiff?"
"I..." My breath comes in a hiccup. "I didn't-"
"Get yourself together! This is pathetic."
Something within me snaps. My tears stop. Heat races through my body, driving the weakness out of me, and I smack him so hard my knuckles burn with the impact. He stares at me, one side of his face bright with blush-blood, and I stare back.
"Shut up," I say. I yank my arm from his grasp and walk out of the room. Veronica Roth, Divergent

Anger,
Tessa thought, was satisfying in its own way, when you gave in to it.
There was something gratifying about shouting in a blind rage until
your words ran out.
Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Angel
I
am awfully greedy; I want everything from life. I want to be a woman
and to be a man, to have many friends and to have loneliness, to work
much and write good books, to travel and enjoy myself, to be selfish
and to be unselfish… You see, it is difficult to get all which I
want. And then when I do not succeed I get mad with anger. Simonede Beauvoir
Sometimes
I just want to go in a room and break things and scream. Like, it’s
so much pressure all the time and if you get upset or angry, people
say, ‘Are you on the rag of something?’ And it’s like I want to
say, ‘No. I’m just pissed off right now. Can’t I just be pissed
off? How come that’s not okay for me?’ Like my dad will say, ‘I
can’t talk to you when you’re hysterical.’ And I’m totally
not being hysterical! I’m just mad. And he’s the one losing it.
But then I feel embarrassed anyway. So I slap on that smile and
pretend everything’s okay even though it’s not. , “Sometimes

Anger
is an essential part of being human. People are taught to deny
themselves anger, and in this, they are actually opening themselves
up to hate. The more you deny yourself the freedom to be angry, the
more you will hate. Let yourself be angry, and hate will
disintegrate, and when hate disintegrates, forgiveness prevails! The
more you deny that you are angry, in attempts to be "holy"
the more inhuman you will become, and the more inhuman you will
become, the harder it will be to forgive. C.JoyBell C.
